Give it a Go details and new Discord server

Firstly, thank you to all of you who popped by the stall yesterday at the fresher’s fair. The large number of people who visited the stall, despite the change in format, was exciting to see.

Yesterday, we advertised our first Give it a Go session, which will start at 5:00pm this afternoon. This will be run using our new Discord server, which can be found at https://discord.gg/gD6EvbE. We hope this enables the social aspects of our club to transfer to the online setting, and that you enjoy your time here.

The Discord server is brand new, so if you have any difficulties or have find any issues, please let me (Alex Vaughan, av17130@bristol.ac.uk) know as soon as possible so we can fix them.

The discord server is open now for anyone to join and use, and I will be in the Lounge voice channel to answer questions from 5:00pm

The Give it a Go session will revolve around asking the committee members questions and playing friendly games with each other. We will be hosting a 5+5 friendly tournament on Lichess.org starting at 5:30pm and ending at 8:00pm. You are free to dip in and out of this tournament whenever you like, as this is a good way to play a large number of people. To play in the tournament, just create a Lichess account (it’s free) and join the university chess club team on Lichess found here: https://lichess.org/team/bristol-university.

I hope to see you this afternoon and best of luck for the year ahead,

Alex Vaughan
